Background of the Study
University campuses are prime targets for cyberattacks due to their vast networks, numerous connected devices, and the vast amount of personal, academic, and research data they store. Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State, maintains a complex network that supports academic, administrative, and social services. As the number of devices and online services increases, ensuring the security of campus networks becomes a pressing concern. Cybersecurity best practices can help mitigate the risks posed by cyber threats such as ransomware, phishing, and unauthorized access.
Effective network security involves implementing a combination of technological, organizational, and policy measures to protect the university’s IT infrastructure. This study aims to investigate existing cybersecurity best practices for campus networks and propose strategies for strengthening the security posture of Federal University, Wukari.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing importance of cybersecurity in educational institutions, Federal University, Wukari, has yet to fully implement a comprehensive cybersecurity framework for its campus network. This leaves the network vulnerable to a wide range of threats, which could lead to data breaches, loss of research, and disruptions in academic activities. This study seeks to investigate and evaluate best practices for enhancing network security in the university’s campus network.
Objectives of the Study
To assess the current cybersecurity measures and practices in place at Federal University, Wukari.
To identify the key cybersecurity threats facing campus networks and how they can be mitigated.
To propose cybersecurity best practices that can be implemented to enhance network security at Federal University, Wukari.
